Winter Leagues - update
11 Feb 2023

We are nearly halfway through the 2nd half fixtures now and it’s all to play for across the divisions with most relegation, promotion and playoff spots still up for grabs! Let’s see how each division is looking:

Men’s Premier Division - Northumberland 1 are building up a strong lead at the top but Westoe 1 could close the gap considerably by winning their games in hand. Newcastle Uni 1A are not too far behind the leaders, and Northern 1 hold a lead over Newcastle Uni 1B for the final Northumbria Cup place. At the bottom of the table the automatic relegation spots are held by Benwell Hill and Primrose 1, but Primrose are challenging Northumberland 2 who currently sit in the relegation play-off spot.

Ladies’ Division 1 - Tynemouth Ladies 1 are occupying 1st place, but Newcastle Uni Ladies 1 are just behind with a game in hand and will likely overtake them. Northern Ladies 1 are 3rd and Northumberland Ladies 1 are currently sitting in the final Ladies’ Northumbria Cup spot, with Northern Ladies 2 likely to drop into the Ladies' League Cup.

Men’s Division 1 - Going into the mini-break, Tynemouth 2 are top just ahead of Eldon 1 but Chester-le-Street 1 in 3rd should overtake both teams once they have played their game in hand, and Northern 2 are still in the hunt in 4th place. Newbiggin 1 and Hexham 1 look well clear at the bottom, but Westoe 2 are chasing Primrose 2 to avoid the relegation play-off place.

Ladies’ Division 2 - At halfway the bottom four teams split into their own division. After the opening few games Northern Ladies 3 sit top just ahead of Tynemouth Ladies 2 with Primrose Ladies in 3rd and Newcastle Uni Ladies 2 at the bottom.

Men’s Division 2 - Northumberland 3 established their superiority over 2nd-placed Boldon 1 recently but both teams are promotion certainties, with Tynemouth 3 challenging Northern 3 for the promotion playoff place. Consett 1 look to be going down, but Sunderland 3 are finding some form and trying to catch Eldon 2 to escape automatic relegation.

Men’s Division 3 - Boldon 2 are well clear at the top with Northern 4 in 2nd, but Northumberland 4 could close the gap on Northern if they win their games in hand. Tynemouth 4 are adrift at the bottom, with Chester-le-Street 2 and Boldon 3 vying to escape the other automatic relegation spot.

Men’s Division 4 - Another division where the top two, Newcastle University 3 and Northern Juniors 1, are outperforming the chasing pack. Northern 5 are currently best-placed to secure the 3rd place play-off spot but all the other teams barring bottom team Tynemouth 5 and Chester-le-Street 3 could still make the promotion, or relegation, playoffs!

Men’s Division 5 - Boldon 4 inflicted Hexham 3's first defeat of the season to go top, but Hexham can return there by winning their game in hand. Only Tynemouth Social look capable of challenging the top two - they have only just started their 2nd half campaign - but Northern Juniors 2 (who have beaten Boldon 4 this half) could still make the playoffs. Consett Development are without a win and look most likely to finish in last place.
