Winter Leagues - update
04 Nov 2023

The Winter Leagues are now taking shape, with most teams having played just over half of their first half fixtures. Here is a quick update on the latest position in each division.

Men's Premier:

Northern 1 are unbeaten after their first five matches and lead the table, having already defeated their nearest rivals and reigning champions Northumberland 1. There is very little between the 3rd to 8th placed teams at this early stage, with only Chester-le-Street 1 adrift at the bottom following six straight defeats.

Division 1:

Northumberland 3 are top after five straight wins, followed by Eldon 1 and Sunderland 2 with one defeat each, who look like vying for the 2nd automatic promotion place.

Down at the bottom, Primrose 2 need to gain points from their two matches in hand to overtake winless Westoe 2 and Benwell Hill 1.

Division 2:

Newbiggin 1 are well ahead of Northern 3 at the top of the table, both teams having made unbeaten starts to the season, with Tynemouth 2 behind the leaders in the third automatic promotion place, and Eldon 2 and Concordia 1 contenders for the promotion playoff place.

Primrose 3 are in trouble at the bottom with four straight defeats, and Hexham 1, Boldon 2 and Northern 4 currently all look likely relegation playoff contenders.

Division 3:

Although University 3 lead the table by a considerable margin having played six matches, they have already lost to Northern Juniors 1 who are unbeaten so far and have three matches in hand on the University. Sunderland 3 also look in a strong position to mount a challenge to Consett 1 and Northumberland 4 for the third automatic promotion place.

Hexham 2 and Northumberland Ladies are struggling at the foot of the table with Boldon 3 just ahead of them.

Division 4:

Tynemouth 3 and Northern 5 lead the way with six straight wins each, and Eldon 3 look best-placed at the moment to take the third automatic promotion spot, with a number of teams in the frame for the 4th place promotion playoff spot.

Hexham 3 are bottom with Boldon 4 and Consett 2 also under threat.

Division 5:

Newbiggin 2 head the table after six matches, followed closely by Northern 6 and Benwell Hill 2 each with a match in hand, with University 4 (played 4) and unbeaten Concordia 2 (played only 3) very much in contention for the two automatic promotion places.

At the other end, Consett Development and new teams Primrose 4 and Northumberland 6 are all winless so far.

Ladies Division 1:

University Ladies 1A beat leaders Northern Ladies 1 to close the gap at the top to just 4 points with a match in hand.

Meanwhile bottom team Northern Ladies 2 recorded their first win of the season over their nearest rivals Tynemouth Ladies 1 to move within 4 points of them with a match in hand.

Ladies Division 2:

After three matches, Northern Ladies 3, University Ladies 3 and Northumberland Ladies 2 are all unbeaten and within a point of each other at the top. Once these teams have played each other, the likely promotion contenders will become clearer.

At the other end, newly-formed University Ladies 4 are still looking for their first win of the season.
