1st round ties in the Men's League Cup A and B took place during December, with successful teams progressing into the quarter finals.

League Cup A (for clubs' highest teams in Divisions 1 to 3):

Congratulations to Northumberland 4, University 3 and Northern Juniors 1 who were all 1st round Division 2 giant-killers, beating higher-placed Division 1 opposition in Sunderland 2, Tynemouth 2 and Newbiggin 1 respectively. Northumberland 4 now meet Division 1 leaders and cup favourites Chester-le-Street 1 who eliminated Division 3 minnows Consett 1, whilst University 3 and Juniors 1 renew their rivalry for a place in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile Eldon 1 defeated Hexham 1 to progress to a quarter-final home tie with Primrose 1, whilst Westoe 2 overcame Boldon 2 in a tight encounter and now face either Concordia 1 of Division 3 or the cupholders Northern 2 in the quarter-final.

League Cup B (for clubs' highest teams in Divisions 4 and 5):

In the only all-Division 4 clash, Northumberland 5 overcame Concordia 2 in a league and cup double-header, and now face Chester-le-Street 3 in the quarter final.

All the other ties were Division 5 v Division 4, and all went the way of the higher-placed team, except for Northern 5, who were given a walkover by Sunderland 4. There were also walkovers for Consett 2 (from Northern Juniors 2), and Tynemouth Social (from Hexham 3).

Cup joint-favourites Benwell Hill and cupholders University 4 knocked out lower-placed Primrose 4 and Newbiggin 2 respectively. Benwell now face Tynemouth Social and University 4 travel to Northern 5. Consett 2 await the winners of Tynemouth 4 v Boldon 4.
