Winter/Spring leagues - update
22 Feb 2026

The Men's Winter League is now midway throught the second half and reaching the final run-in, whilst the Ladies' Spring 2026 League fixtures are halfway through.

Here is a quick update on the latest position in each division.

Men's Premier:

Northern 1 with 14 straight wins are 65 points ahead of their nearest rivals and have the title all but wrapped up. The other Northumbria Cup places (for top-4 teams) are occupied by Northumberland 1B and 1C and University 1, with Northumberland 1A still in the mix.

Meanwhile newly-promoted Eldon 1 continue to prop up the table with just one win so far. University 2 have rallied with three narrow wins in succession to threaten Tynemouth 1 with automatic relegation and escape to the playoffs, with Westoe 1 and the other newly-promoted team Chester-le-Street 1 looking safe in mid-table.

Division 1:

Sunderland 1 lost for the first time this season to promotion rivals Newbiggin 1 but both teams look odds-on for automatic promotion to the top flight, with Northern 2 and Boldon 1 vying for the promotion playoff place. Northumberland 4 are also well-placed but cannot be promoted as clubs are limited to a maximum of 3 teams in the Premier Division.

Down at the bottom, winless Northern 3 are looking cetain for automatic relegation, with University 3 likely to join them. Meanwhile Tynemouth 2 have pulled away from Primrose 1 in the bid to avoid the relegation playoff place.

Division 2:

Westoe 2 are in pole position for promotion, with Northumberland 5 under threat from both Hexham 1 and Primrose 2 for the other automatic place, and one of these teams set to miss out on the playoffs.

At the other end Sunderland 2 have recorded their first two wins of the season back-to-back to give themselves an outside chance of staying up. Northern 4 and Boldon 2 are the other relegation-threatend teams whilst Consett 1 should be safe.

Division 3:

At the top, Chester-le-Street 2 are closing on Tynemouth 3 following Tynemouth's narrow defeat to 3rd-placed Benwell Hill, who look a safe bet for the promotion playoffs.

It remains close at the bottom with the relegation automatic and playoff places to be decided between University 4, Chester-le-Street 3 and Primrose 3

Division 4:

Newbiggin 2 lead the way followed by Consett 2, some distance ahead of Northumberland 6 who look most likely for the promotion playoff place although Boldon 3 and Concordia 2 are not out of contention yet.

Primrose 4 and Sunderland 3 occupy the automatic relegation positions with Tynemouth 4 having established a reasonable gap in the relegation playoff place.

Division 5:

Northern Juniors 1 continue to lead the way with 12 straight wins following their only defeat in their opening match. Chester-le-Street 4 are just ahead of Consett 3 in the battle for the other automatic promotion place, with Northern 6 defeating Boldon 4 to strengthen their challenge for the promotion playoff place.

Newbiggin 3 and Hexham 3 with two wins apiece are trying to avoid finishing at the bottom.

Ladies' Spring 2026 League

Division 1:

In a four-team division, it's a three-way contest between University Ladies 1, Tynemouth Ladies 1 and Northumberland Ladies. Tynemouth Ladies 1 have already beaten University Ladies 1 twice, but have lost to Northumberland Ladies, who in turn have lost to University Ladies 1. Northern Ladies 1 have lost their opening two matches.

Division 2:

Primrose Ladies have won their first five matches, so already have a substantial lead over their nearest rivals University Ladies 2 and Northern Ladies 2, with Northern Ladies 3 and Tynemouth Ladies 2 still seeking their first wins.
