We have now reached the 'business end' of the Northumbria and League Cup competitions, so here is the latest position in each:
Ladies' Northumbria Cup (for all Division 1 teams)
The semi-finals were held at the Northumberland Club on Thursday 7th May with the finals on Saturday 9th May. In the first semi-final, 2025 Winter League champions and cup-holders Newcastle University Ladies narrowly overcame 2026 Spring League champions Tynemouth Ladies 3-2. In the second semi-final running in parallel, Northern Ladies beat a depleted Northumberland Ladies 4-1.
Semi-finals (Thu 7th May):
- Newcastle University Ladies 1 beat Tynemouth Ladies 1 3-2
- Northern Ladies 1 beat Northumberland Ladies 1 4-1
Final at the Northumberland Club (Sat 9th May, 5:30pm):
- Newcastle University Ladies 1 v Northern Ladies 1
Men's Northumbria Cup (for the top 4 Premier teams)
The semi-finals were held at the Northumberland Club on Friday 8th May followed by the finals on Saturday 9th May. In each semi-final, running in parallel, Premier League champions and cupholders Northern and runners-up Newcastle University proved too strong for their hosts Northumberland 1A and 1B, running pout 4-1 and 5-0 winners respectively.
Semi-finals (Fri 8th May):
- Northern 1 beat Northumberland 1A. 4-1
- Newcastle University 1 beat Northumberland 1B 5-0
Final at the Northumberland Club (Sat 9th May, 5:30pm):
- Northern 1 v Newcastle University 1
Men's League Cup A [for Div 1 to Div 3 teams]
In the semi-finals, Newbiggin 1 and Northern 2 beat Boldon 1 and Division 1/2 playoff hopefuls Hexham 1 respectively to set up their third clash of the season. Newbiggin, who won both the league matches between the two teams 4-1, have secured automatic promotion to the Premier and Northern 2 joined them through the playoff route on 30th April, so it should be a close-fought final.

- Newbiggin 1 [1] beat Primrose 1 [1] 5-0
- Northen 2 [1] beat Northumberland 4 [1] 4-1

- Northen 2 [1] beat Hexham 1 [2] 5-0

Men's League Cup B [for Div 4 & 5 teams]
In the first semi-final, played as a league and cup double-header, Division 4 champions and cup favourites Newbiggin 2 narrowly overcame runners-up Consett 2 by 3-2. In the second semi-final, Division 5 champions Northern Juniors recorded a similar narrow 3-2 win over Eldon 3 (6th placed in Division 4), setting up an intriguing final between the respective divisional champions.

- Consett 2 [4] beat Northumberland 6 [4] 3-2
- Northern Juniors 1 [5] beat Primrose 4 [4] walkover
- Eldon 3 [4] beat Northern 6 [5] 3-2

- Newbiggin 2 [4] beat Consett 2 [4] 3-2
- Northern Juniors 1 [5] beat Eldon 3 [4] 3-2
Final at the Northumberland Club (Sat 9th May, 2:45pm):

Ladies' League Cup (for all Division 2 teams)
In the semi-finals, both played as league and cup double-headers, Primrose Ladies defeated Northern Ladies 3 by 4-1, whilst cupholders Northern Ladies 2 fared even better, knocking out Newcastle University Ladies 2 by 5-0 to set up a repeat of last year's final. This is the fifth meeting of the two teams this season, with Northern winning the first two in the Winter League but Primrose responding with two narrow wins of their own in the Spring League, setting things up nicely for the final showdown.
Quarter-final:
- Newcastle University Ladies 2 beat Tynemouth Ladies 2 4-1
Semi-finals:
- Primrose Ladies beat Northern Ladies 3 4-1
- Northern Ladies 2 beat Newcastle University Ladies 2 5-0
Final at the Northumberland Club (Sat 9th May, 1:00pm):
- Primrose Ladies v Northern Ladies 2
The Cup Finals and Presentation Night will be held at the Northumberland Club on Saturday 9th May. All are welcome!

An important point to note is that under League rule 5.3, In order to be eligible to play in Cup semi-final and/or final ties, a player must have already played at least three team matches for the relevant club in the relevant League during the season, of which at least one match was during the second half of the season, unless there are mitigating circumstances (eg injury) notified to the League Secretary and accepted by the Northumbria Squash Committee.
