Men's League - update
24 Feb 2018

With just a few weeks left to the end of the league season, here are the main highlights and issues in the Men's League:

Premier Division

Newcastle University are still favourites to retain their Premier Division title, despite defeats to their main rivals Northern 1 and Westoe in their two most recent matches. The winner of Westoe v Northern 1 on 22nd March will probably be the main challenger to the University, who have an easier run-in. At the bottom, Northumberland 2 are certainties for relegation with Sunderland odds-on to join them.

Division 1

Newcastle University 2 have almost secured promotion with third-placed Chester-le-Street 1 favourites to join them if they win their matches in hand on second-placed Tynemouth 2. University 2 v Tynemouth 2 on 15th March followed by Chester-le-Street 1 v Tynemouth 3 on 19th March are crucial matches. Northern 3 are certainties to go down, with Eldon Leisure 1 very likely to join them.

Division 2

Westoe 2 despite some inconsistent results look a strong bet for promotion with Washington pushing them hard for the title. Hexham 1 have the chance to get back in the promotion mix if they can beat Westoe 2 at home on 21st March, but Benwell Hill's good run appears to have faltered. Chester-le-Street 2 are certainties for the drop, with Northern Junors 1 still having a chance to overtake either Sunderland 2 or Primrose 1, who face each other in their final match of the season on 20th March.

Division 3

Boldon 1 and Dunston 1 look to have the two promotion places wrapped up although Newbiggin 2 have them both to play and could overtake one of them if results go their way. Tynemouth Social are all but down, with Northumberland Ladies hoping to overtake Consett 2 in the run-in to escape the drop.

Division 4

Westoe 3's next match away to Primrose 2 on 1st March and final match at home to Hexham 2 on 19th March will go a long way to deciding which two of these three teams secure promotion. At the bottom, Scotezzi's final two matches away to Sunderland 3 on 14th March and at home to Chester-le-Street 3 on 19th March look to be crucial, but any two of the six teams from 4th to 9th could still go down.

Division 5

Ashington 1 have all but secured promotion and the title. Northumberland 5 are almost certain to join them, with Boldon 2 too far behind. The candidates for the two relegation places are Northern Juniors 2, Walker, Consett 3 and Dunston 2.

Division 6

Unbeaten Primrose 3 are promoted as champions, with Northern 6 chasing Concordia 3 for the other promotion place. Down at the bottom, Consett 4 are certainties for relegation, along with either Eldon Leisure 3 or Westoe 4.

Division 7

Chester-le-Street 4 look like going up as champions, with three teams - Sunderland 4, Hexham 3 and Boldon 3 - all in the hunt for the remaining promotion place. After re-forming, Ashington 2 have struggled at the bottom without a win so far this season.
