Men's League Cup competitions
08 Feb 2019

Second-round ties in both the Men's League Cups A and B are scheduled to take place over the next couple of weeks, with teams seeking to progress into the quarter finals.

In League Cup A (for Div 1 to Div 3 teams), Northumberland 2 (Div 1) went through on a walkover, Westoe 2 (Div 1) secured a narrow 3-2 win over Benwell Hill (Div 2), and Primrose 1 became the first Div 2 team through, running out 4-1 winners over Concordia 1 of Div 1. In the three ties on 18th Feb ('Cup Monday'), Div 2 leaders Northern 3 will definitely fancy their chances at home to bottom-of-Div 1 Washington; Boldon 1 (Div 2) may have a chance at home to University 3 (Div 1) depending on what team their opposition bring; and Hexham 1 (Div 1) will expect to see off the threat from Eldon Leisure 1 (Div 2). Div 1 leaders Tynemouth 2 and Sunderland 1 will expect to go through, although Dunston 1 (against Tynemouth) and Newbiggin 2 (the only remaining Div 3 team, against Sunderland) will no doubt have giant-killing ambitions.

In League Cup B (for Div 4 to Div 7 teams), the most intriguing ties look to be Chester-le-Street 3 (top of Div 4) v Primrose 3 (top of Div 5) scheduled for Cup Monday, and the clash between the Northern and Tynemouth 5th teams, Northern being the higher-placed (Div 4) team but Tynemouth going well in Div 5. Eldon Leisure 2 (Div 4) host Boldon 2 (Div 5) for the right to play Consett 2 (Div 4) who are already through. In the other ties, Dunston 2 (Div 5) host Concordia 2 (Div 4), Northumberland 4 (Div 4) host Sunderland 3 (Div 5), Northern Juniors 2 (the only remaining Div 6 team) host Tynemouth Social (Div 4) and finally Scotezzi Squash (Div 4) host Ashington (Div 5).
