Here is an update on the latest position at the top and bottom of each division of the leagues, and important fixtures coming up.
Men's Premier: At the top, Tynemouth 1 are 26 points ahead of Newcastle University 1A but have played one match more. Northern 1 remain in contention, and the second half clashes between these three teams all take place in March in what are likely to be title deciders, starting with University 1A's visits to Tynemouth and then Northern on 7th and 20th March, then Northern hosting Tynemouth on 21st March. At the bottom, Chester-le-Street 1 look certainties for the drop and Newbiggin 1 are 15 point behind Northern 2 with a match in hand in their bid to avoid the other relegation place.
Division 1: It's close at the top with Sunderland 1 and Tynemouth 2 level on points following Concordia 1's withdrawal from the league. Northumberland 2 are their nearest challengers, 12 points behind with a match in hand. Sunderland host Tynemouth on 7th March, then Northumberland host both Sunderland and Tynemouth, on 11th March and 3rd April respectively, realistically needing to win both matches. Washington look most likely to join Concordia 1 in going down, with Tynemouth 3 just 8 points ahead and Hexham 1 pulling away.
Division 2: Northern 3 with their rapidly improving junior players have a commanding 17-point lead and a game in hand over Primrose 1, with no other teams in promotion contention. Primrose host Northern on 12th March and anything other than a convincing Primrose win will confirm the title for Northern. Meanwhile Tynemouth 4 are certainties to go down and either Boldon 1 or Benwell Hill look likely to join them, Boldon having a 4-point advantage, so their home match with Benwell on 20th March will be pivotal.
Division 3: Primrose 2 lead the way but Westoe 3, with two matches in hand, have closed the gap to just 15 points following their recent 4-1 (17-5) win over Primrose on 1st March, and their final fixture away to Northern on 2nd April will probably settle the promotion and title issues. Northumberland Ladies are certainties for relegation, with Hexham 2 likely to join them.
Division 4: It's still a two-horse race between Chester-le-Street 3 and Northumberland 4, with Chester-le-Street having a 24-point advantage after completing the double over Northumberland (who have a match in hand), and Eldon Leisure 2 too far off the pace. Tynemouth Social and Ashington are destined for relegation.
Division 5: Sunderland 3 have taken over as favourites for promotion, maintaining their winning run by beating rivals Primrose 3, with Tynemouth 5 overcoming a fading Boldon 2 to maintain their challenge in a very competitive division in which all four of these teams still have a genuine chance. Primrose have the easiest run-in, whereas Sunderland have to play both Tynemouth at home and then Boldon away on 6th and 18th March respectively. Concordia 3 are certainties for the drop but 2nd-bottom Consett 3 still have a chance of overhauling Dunston 2 if they can beat Dunston convincingly away on 13th March and then Concordia away in their final match on 27th March.
Division 6: Northern 6 lead by 8 points from Boldon 3 and by 15 points over Chester-le-Street 4, who have a match in hand. Northern beat Chester-le-Street 3-2 (16-9) to improve their promotion chances, and Boldon have crucial home matches against Northern and Chester-le-Street on 5th and 19th March respectively. Northern Juniors 2 and Walker are adrift at the foot of the table.
Division 7: Sunderland 4 beat Boldon 4 by 5-0 (20-4) to secure promotion. They have an 8-point lead over Westoe 4 who are a further 13 points ahead of Boldon 4 with just one fixture each remaining. Hexham 3 are still in the running a further 16 points behind Boldon with two fixtures remaining. Westoe host Sunderland in their final match on 7th March, and if Westoe can win by a margin of 8 points or more, they will clinch the title. On the other hand, if Westoe get fewer than 12 points, they could be overhauled by Hexham who will be hoping to pick up maximum points in their final two matches against bottom teams Consett 4 and Dunston 3 on 18th and 26th March respectively. Finally if Westoe get fewer than 8 more points and Hexham fewer than 36 more points, Boldon could finish second with a maximum points haul in their final match on 27th March at home to Northumberland 5.
Ladies Premier: Tynemouth Ladies 1, having registered back-to-back wins over main rivals Northern Ladies 1A to complete a treble over them for the season, then lost to Northumbria University Ladies 2-3 (9-15) to remain in second place in the table behind Northern 1A, although Tynemouth are only 4 points behind with a match in hand. Tynemouth finish with back-to-back fixtures on 14th and 18th March against Northern Ladies 1B, who are looking to hold on to 3rd place if they can beat Northumbria University Ladies at home on 11th March.
Ladies Division 1: Congratulations to Primrose Ladies who have secured the Division 1 title with a match to spare after a convincing 5-0 (20-3) victory over Northumberland Ladies. It's between Northumberland Ladies and Northern Ladies for the second promotion place with both teams level on points with two matches remaining. Northern host Northumberland on 17th March in the deciding fixture.
Ladies Division 2: Tynemouth Ladies 2 have strengthened their lead over Eldon Leisure Ladies to 11 points with two matches remaining, and their final fixture at Eldon on 27th March looks likely to settle the title. Meanwhile Tynemouth Ladies 3 are now 11 points behind Concordia, and their final fixture at Tynemouth on 23rd March will decide the destination of the wooden spoon.
